I'm a Yankee Doodle Dandy

Well, not really, but we had a dandy celebration of Independence Day.

We continued our family tradition of matching shirts.
Brenna remembered that even one of the top 10 parades in the country can get a little slow after a while, so she brought reinforcements.
The fire trucks brought a lot of energy to the beginning of the parade, but were REALLY, really loud!

After the parade, we headed to the country and enjoyed a good old fashioned cook-out with friends of my parents.
The girls got to ride horses for the first time.  I was really impressed with how well they both did.

Brenna was a little nervous and kept a tight hold of the saddle.  Piper and Grandpa both seemed really comfortable.
Then, the kids (mostly grown ups) shot of model rockets.  (We were at the home of an engineering professor, so these were some great rockets)
All the kids raced to get to the rocket first. (It looks like Piper is in the lead, but really is the lead of the second pack.) Click on this picture so you can really see the joy on both my girls faces.  Pure delight!!

And like so many others, it ended with a wonderful fireworks display!

Looks like you all did have a dandy! Every time my husband is asked how he is, he often says "Dandy!" So that joke is a little old to me.
